Jessica C. Lief: A native San Franciscan, I am a Californian by birth, francophile at heart. I discovered my love of language and words the moment I realized that reading a book meant I’d never be lonely. I fell in love with France the moment I saw French women grocery shopping with straw baskets at an open aire market in Aix en Provence. One morning in middle school English class, I heard a quote, “The world’s not going to end, it’s already tomorrow in Australia.” From that day, I knew I needed to get to the other side of the world one day. My bucket list includes, completing a pilgrimage in Spain, running a marathon, swimming with dolphins and mastering a fourth (or fifth) language. I decided to abandon the stability and security in well-anchored routines that a full time nine to five job provides and pick up and move to the south of France. I believe in following your dreams at the expense of everything, used bookstores and restorative power of laughter.
